Dutch symphonic metal band Blackbriar release new single 'I Buried Us'

Today, Dutch symphonic metal band BLACKBRIAR release their brand new song 'I Buried Us', a powerful track blending crushing guitar riffs, soaring orchestral elements, and raw, emotional vocals.

Vocalist Zora Cock comments: "'I Buried Us' captures the haunting aftermath of love laid to rest. In this song, I mentally dig a grave for a romance, but my imagination refuses to stay buried. I envision the two of us side by side, six feet under, a decayed heart still aching for their warmth. In my mind, we're still dancing in the afterlife, twirling in the 'what-ifs' and 'could-have-beens.'"

“Some say that there is beauty in darkness - terrifying visitors, worlds far gone, gothic romances, bone-chilling legends, sin-eaters, burning hearts frozen in time, songs with a misleading voice, and a truthful whisper. This and so much more for you to discover on A Dark Euphony.” Such are the words of vocalist Zora Cock about the band’s sophomore album, which was released in fall 2023 on Nuclear Blast Records. A telling sign coming from a band who has revelled in gothic beauty and metallic darkness since their onset, spanning three EPs and a full-length album, along with long-time collaborator Joost van den Broek.

Formed in 2012 by Zora CockRené BoxemBart Winters, and Frank Akkerman, BLACKBRIAR crafted their first single in 2014 with 'Ready to Kill', but it was 2015’s second single 'Until Eternity' that truly propelled them into the scene. A sweeping track with an equally compelling and beautiful video, it continues to draw many to the act with over 20 million views since its debut. Taking advantage of the growing buzz surrounding the band, they independently recorded and released their first EP, Fractured Fairytales, as well as acquiring a second guitarist in Robin Koezen. This EP laid down an impressive foundation for the band’s ethereal and breathtaking sound and  brought about new opportunities for the act, including tour dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and more, where the band played alongside EPICAHALESTORMIN THIS MOMENTDELAIN and MaYan.

To keep moving ahead with full control of their creative ideals, the band successfully crowdfunded their follow-up EP, We’d Rather Burn, and brought it to life in October 2018. This EP would be the first time the band worked alongside esteemed producer Joost van den Broek to arrange and produce the effort, and this fruitful collaboration allowed BLACKBRIAR’s whimsical and enigmatic sound to reach new sonic heights. Released the same day as their self-made video for 'I’d Rather Burn,' this EP showcased a stronger sense of dreamy atmosphere and brought listeners beautifully grim tales of witches, banshees, and sea sirens. In the time following, keyboardist Ruben Wijga (ex-Re-Vamp) took a larger role within the band and began playing shows, after being involved in the songwriting process since Fractured Fairytales.

A busy 2019 followed, the band released a haunting single in May entitled 'Snow White and Rose Red'. A duet with Ulli Perhonen, their take on the Grimm’s fairytale featured striking cinematic visuals to accompany the spellbinding track. Continuing to dig deeper into fairytale realms, BLACKBRIAR closed the year with their third EP, Our Mortal Remains. Ever-sharpening their intoxicating blend of storytelling and breathtaking musicianship, the EP brought about new live exposures for the act as well. Small, sold out tours with EPICA in 2019 and 2020, as well as a sold out opening for DELAIN’s Apocalypse & Chill release show in Utrecht followed, with more future plans then being put on hold due to COVID-19.

Championing their continued independence, which included everything from songwriting, maintaining their web presence, overseeing merch, as well as shooting and producing their own videos and photos, BLACKBRIAR reached out to their ever-growing and loyal fanbase for assistance to make their full-length album a reality in 2020. Fans fervently heeded the call, reaching the €25,000 goal in under 24 hours and ending with a total of €70,000 and achieving all five stretch goals. An impressive accomplishment for an independent act, which also showcases a strong internet presence with over 230,000 YouTube subscribers and 56.5 million channel views as well as 37.9 million Spotify streams and 275,000 monthly streamers on the platform.

Entering 2021, the band relinquished a bit of control in signing exclusively with Doomstar Bookings to help properly support their highly anticipated first full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, which released in April. Once again recorded with renowned producer Joost van den Broek (EPICAAYREON, POWERWOLF) at Sandlane Recording Facilities, this release showcased the band’s continued evolution into masterfully dark gothic storytelling and theatrical aesthetics that entice you into a deadly yet spellbinding musical paradise. On the live front, launching into success with six sold out Dutch club shows, they later extended into more European territories such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the Czech Republic as the band moved into 2022.

Despite a very successful 2021, the band still hungered for more, unleashing their latest single, 'Fairy of the Bog' in December. A song about ‘het meisje van Yde’ (Yde girl), it’s a mixture of folklore, myth, and ancient local history wrapped into a more mystical and magical package that showcases what BLACKBRIAR does best. Due to winning ‘Drents Talent Award Culture 2021’ from ‘Stichting Kunst & Cultuur,’ BLACKBRIAR performed ‘I’d Rather Burn’ live on television together with the Dutch ‘Noordpool Orchestra in early 2022. In April, the band parted ways with founding member and bassist Frank Akkerman. Not a band to slow down, they welcomed Siebe Sol Sijpkens from The Netherlands as their new bassist. A happy and energetic performer with a lifetime of global performances, he is a welcome addition to the act as they continue to strive forward.

With their vision looking firmly into the future, with a major label behind them, they set their sights on 2023 to conjure their most deadly siren song yet. Previously releasing the song 'Crimson Faces' to celebrate their partnership with Nuclear Blast Records, the band then unveiled to the world their second album A Dark Euphony. According to Zora, “We've had the pleasure of working with producer and musical genius Joost van den Broek, and we gave it our all to write this record and feel that this is our most complete, personal, and mature album to date.”

With accolades behind them, such as being nominated three times for ‘Best Artist’ in EuroSonic/Noorderslag‘s Popgala Noord (2018, 2020, 2022), and continued fan support with current monthly streaming totals on YouTube and Spotify near 1.5 million streams, the world is primed and ready for more spectacular journeys into darkness and beauty.

Modern hard rockers Wucan return with new single 'Irons in the Fire'

Three years after their last studio album Heretic Tongues, modern hard rock act Wucan return with their new single & video ‘Irons in the Fire’.

Heavy beats, loud guitars, epic vocals - this is signature Wucan. An undeniable headbanger that still holds surprises for long-time fans, but leaves the old and new listener surprised by the diversity of sound within.

"I wrote 'Irons in the Fire' as a little toast to all those who refuse to be beaten down by the adversities of the world and keep pushing forward," comments singer Francis.

‘Irons in the Fire’ is a classic metal/hard rock song, but the devil is in the details. Harmony changes, the theremin solo, and little breaks make it a classic Wucan song. The song addresses consistency and perseverance in the passion or calling that each person sees individually for themselves. The message that emerges: Don't give up and stay true to yourself.

Francis continues: "How does the saying go? 'Diamonds are made under pressure'? It sometimes feels like that when you pursue a goal and have to overcome obstacles and hurdles to fulfill your dream. Every setback shapes us, every defeat carries a chance within it, and it takes iron will and a good dose of passion to withstand this pressure. ‘Irons in the Fire’ was the first song we wrote for our upcoming album. We recorded it in 2024 with our homeboy Max Power in a studio in Berlin. After Heretic Tongues, we floated through jams for a while and were still unsure where the journey with the new album should go. When Tim brought this riff to a rehearsal, we let ourselves be carried away by it. At a certain point, one part flowed organically into the next. It felt really good when the song was finished and already hinted at the direction the new album would take."

The Dresden quartet recently entered the German album charts for the first time in their career with their last album Heretic Tongues, followed by impressive performances at numerous European festivals.

Lord Of The Lost reveal new single / video 'My Sanctuary'

Genrefluid visionaries Lord Of The Lost captivate with their first single, 'My Sanctuary', and its official music video, offering a mesmerising glimpse into their upcoming full-length album, OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, set for release on 8th August, 2025 via Napalm Records.

Pre-order OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 here: https://lnk.to/LOTL-OPVSNOIR/napalmrecords

With 'My Sanctuary' – and the coming entire OPVS NOIR trilogy as a whole – the #1 charting band return to a much heavier sound compared to their latest hits. Razor-sharp riffs blend seamlessly with gothic harmonies and orchestral grandeur, while Chris Harms' deep baritone vocals create a sonic sanctuary, inviting listeners to embrace their inner darkness.

A work, a transformation, a re-entry into the melancholic self – OPVS NOIR is in no danger of becoming an offspring of understatement, neither in its title nor in its musical opulence. And rightly so: Not only will it be the first album as a six-piece band, but it also marks the beginning of an album trilogy, available in multiple editions, including, of course, strictly limited collector's items. Each volume contains 11 songs, totaling 33 tracks that not only conclude the eccentric chapter of Blood & Glitter, but also initiate an uncompromising return to the dark core of the band.

Vocalist Chris Harms commented on the new single: “We have 33 songs to choose from, but which one will be the first single to pave the way into a new era and mark the beginning of a trilogy? We chose 'My Sanctuary', which for us is a kind of gateway song that opens the door to the world of OPVS NOIR. It shows that darkness isn't just about sadness - for many of us, darkness is a life force.”

What is the essence of Lord Of The Lost in 2025? That is one of the questions OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 fearlessly begins to answer. Once again, the band proves not only musical excellence but also masterful craftsmanship: Produced by Chris Harms, recorded, mixed, and mastered at the legendary CHAMELEON STUDIOS in Hamburg, the 11 tracks hit with a force and brilliance that immediately transport us into a dark yet colourful ballroom. From there, the tone is set: Dark Wave Metal on an amphitheater scale.

Chris Harms comments on the album: “Darkness, melancholy, loneliness - all words that often have negative connotations, that we may associate with danger, sadness and loss, and not without reason. But darkness can also be security, melancholy the warm and sentimental feeling of our memories, and loneliness becomes necessary silence, peace and inner contemplation. OPVS NOIR is a travel guide, or perhaps also a travelogue, through the dark sides of our inner world, which so often move precisely in the area of tension between what we emotionally categorize as positive or negative. And with Vol. 1, all of this is just the beginning of this 3-part journey...”

OPVS NOIR is not only a musically exciting step but also a bold one. This becomes clear when looking at Lord Of The Lost's immediate past: support for Iron Maiden on two European tours, followed by their first North American shows in over a decade, sold-out headlining tours, participation in the final of the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2023, a #1 chart entry with the previous album Blood & Glitter, celebrated performances at the biggest festivals worldwide – they even had the honour of meeting King Charles in person. Hand on heart: How easy would it have been to keep riding this wave of success just a little longer? But that’s not how Lord Of The Lost operate – the only constant remains change.

Everything is new, yet every note feels familiar. Behind each chorus awaits a surprise, in every line, a new door opens to further uncharted paths within the LOTL universe. This band takes the expectations of its ever-growing fanbase and molds them into songs that transcend genre boundaries – and turn moments into monuments that carry us all along: No one lost behind!

As previously announced, the band commence a co-headline tour with Steel Panther on 11th April in Redding, California.

The two-time GRAMMY-nominated band have created an album that's bursting at the seams with lightning-hot rock'n'roll. From the the horn-swelling swagger of 'I Go Boom' and the honey-dripping riffs of 'Blackout', to the AC/DC stomp of 'Come On' and the frantic runaway train rhythm of the title track, Roar Like Thunder sees a band that bring live rock'n'roll to the stage more days a year than the sun is seen in Britain, and set that energy off like a bottle rocket in the studio. The album was mastered by Anthony Focx [Metallica, Aerosmith].

Frontman Josh Todd comments: “Roar Like Thunder rocks from beginning to end. It grooves, it thumps, and there is subject matter in each song everyone can relate to. Strap in and enjoy the ride.”

Guitarist Stevie Dacanay affirms: “It’s the pure, uncut, rock’n’roll music you’ve been jonesing for…”

Polish metalcore quartet Demeted announce new EP, stream new single

Poland’s Demeted return with their captivating and dynamic Rituals EP, released 9th May via Seek & Strike

A modern metalcore masterpiece, you can hear a glimpse of the EP with the first single 'Basilisk'. 'Basilisk' is an absolute banger that goes straight for the jugular, and which perfectly sets the tone for the rest of this hard-hitting new offering.

Watch the video for 'Basilisk' here: https://youtu.be/2QzxunG1PzQ
Pre-save Rituals here: https://orcd.co/demetedrituals

This is the follow-up to Demeted's debut EP Lunacy, which earned them national recognition and saw the band push their songwriting to new heights, crafting more epic hooks and infectious melodies, while maintaining their overall aggression.

Demeted state:  "The EP’s first single, ‘Basilisk,' was inspired from a legend about a literal basilisk in Warsaw’s catacombs, where the monster was wreaking havoc and turning everyone to stone with its gaze. The lyrics focus on the perspective of the beast, where the power it possesses makes it invincible, but it’s also incredibly lonely and sad. This is an allegory to the reality where sometimes immense power takes away most genuine people from a person’s life. Most of these songs were inspired by indigenous Polish folklore legends. We all come from Poland and want to embrace the culture behind us. Musically, this song was especially challenging, because the guitar tunings forced us to come up with vocals that are really something different and unique when compared to the rest.

"This EP is also the manifestation of our continuous evolution as a band. The sound has turned to a darker, more aggressive and mysterious tone, but the imagery was adjusted to resemble the offering's main themes. Everything in the new release falls under the concept of displaying the forgotten and mysterious, indigenous culture of Poland from hundreds of years ago. The one specific element that clearly helps separate us from the rest of the bands in our genre is our sound flexibility. We can always find a way to create a catchy chorus, even if the song is really heavy and it would be impossible at the first glance.

"If there’s anything we can share with the world, it would be one thing - be proud of who you are, because your intrinsic value is immense. You just need to show it to the world and eventually there will be someone that’s going to cherish it."

The new single revolves around the themes of betrayal, feeling trapped and inner conflict. Lyrically it depicts a struggle between wanting to break free and knowing you probably wouldn’t, even if you could. There is a clear, almost desperate, plea and need for salvation but also a push and pull between giving in to the destruction and hoping for a release.

The band comment: "It was one of the later songs we wrote for the EP, and we played around with lots of ideas for the melody in the verse as we wanted something quite rhythmic but still melodic and catchy. Once we had this melody, albeit with very different words, we all couldn’t stop singing it days, even weeks, later so we knew it was the one.

"This is the first new song Häxan fans will hear since our debut album release in 2020, so we hope they will see and love the band’s and our sound's evolution. It’s still Häxan. Still big riffs, big choruses, but bolder, heavier, and bigger than ever."

Produced by Grammy nominated Romesh DodangodaHäxan's new EP showcases the band’s evolution, blending rock and metal influences - bigger, bolder and more intense. From the uncompromising title track and first single 'Death of Me', Häxan delivers big riffs, big vocals and driving energy, setting the stage for what’s to come.

Recorded at Longwave Studios with the same passion and fire that fuels their high-energy live shows, Death of Me captures the essence of a band that has made waves on major festivals such as Download, Bloodstock, and Planet Rockstock, international stages such as the Monsters of Rock Cruise Miami and Malmo Rock Festival, as well as sharing the stage with the likes of Foreigner, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, and Florence Black.

Founding songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Blake Mullens says of the song: "This song was one of those rarities where the vision stayed consistent throughout the entire process, it became exactly what I imaged it would from day one. This is a huge pivot thematically from the previous material, coupled with the video I think it’s quite the statement."

Commenting on the signing to Nuclear Blast, Mullens says: "It’s an honor to be joining the Nuclear Blast roster, alongside some of my all time favorite bands/artists. DISEMBODIED TYRANT has only ever been supported by myself internally, and to now have an entire team behind us is a dream come true, I’m very eager for what the future holds!"

Nuclear Blast America’s label manager and head of A&R, Tommy Jones adds:

"I’ve never signed an artist that never played a show live, until DISEMBODIED TYRANT. I just felt so solid on their music and their team, that I rolled the dice. I saw the band’s 8th show ever at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest while they were supporting Fleshgod Apocalypse. After the performance, I hugged Blake and said in his ear ‘thank you for confirming my decision’.

"The world is not ready for the insanity of DISEMBODIED TYRANT, but you don’t have a choice. It’s about to get disgusting.”

Fans can catch DISEMBODIED TYRANT on their North American tour with CHELSEA GRINSHADOW OF INTENT and SIGNS OF THE SWARM this spring.
