Amaranthe release new single 'Fading Like A Flower' (Roxette cover)

Amaranthe have today released their cover version of 'Fading Like A Flower' from Swedish pop rock legends Roxette.

Re-envisioning a classic song in their own forward-thinking synth driven, metallic melody, Amaranthe demonstrate their ability to inject new life into an old favourite.

Stream 'Fading Like A Flower' (Roxette cover) here: https://amaranthe.bfan.link/fading-like-a-flower

The band comment: “Being born and raised in Sweden meant that you are subjected to an absolute onslaught of ultra-catchy music, starting with ABBA all the way up to the present day, with some of the world’s greatest song writers and producers hailing from here. One of the most successful acts to ever come out of Sweden is Roxette, and if you were young in the 80’s/90’s, their music was EVERYWHERE. To do a tribute to 1991’s 'Fading Like A Flower' is something we half-jokingly talked about during a few years, and when the opportunity arose during 'The Catalyst' recordings we jumped at it. Roxette’s melodies and arrangements fit Amaranthe like a hand-tailored glove, and we’re now really excited to share this cover with you all!”

Formed in 2008, Amaranthe walked their own unique path from the start. With a sound that combined the sharpest, cutting edges of melodic metal, electronic rock and razor-sharp pop, their impact was immediate and undeniable. Kicking off with their self-titled debut in 2011, the Swedes blazed a trail through the European metal scene and beyond, swiftly establishing themselves as a dazzling one-off, not least due to the unprecedented triple vocal attack, that paired clean tones with exquisite melodic sensibilities and feral growls. Over the next few years, the sextet steadily grew in stature, releasing a series of praised studio records that jabbed persistently at the boundaries of modern metal.

The band comment:

"'Breathe It In' was one of the very first tracks we started on this record and it shows in its message. Far from the contemplative and collected tone struck on later songs like 'Silence & The Sound' and 'Shadowlight', this song is about taking the first step on the road to self-acceptance, or even realising that a step needs to be taken in the first place. It is all too easy to wonder about what could have been or ruminate on how we wish our lives were, and the first step to peace of mind is to recognise and call out this vicious cycle as it’s happening. Once we struck on this idea of taking a step, we came up with the marching, rhythmic sound of the chorus to represent this process. We also felt it was important to not end this song on a resolved, symmetrical note; it was crucial for us to convey a feeling that the end of the song asked a question about the future of what this introspective journey holds, rather than answering it."

Following their tour with Swarm6ix last month, Defences have announced an album release show in London and a UK headline tour for 2025.

Upcoming live dates:

2024
Nov 09: London Camden Assembly (Album Release Show)
Dec 07: Brighton Hammerdown Winter Militia

2025
Jan 29: Glasgow Nice N Sleazy (w/ Crushed By Waves)

Feb 01: Nottingham Billy Bootleggers (w/ Crushed By Waves)
Feb 02: Leeds Packhorse (w/ Crushed By Waves)
Mar 01: Cardiff Fuel

With strong support in the form of millions of streams across their catalogue of releases, many UK tours with multiple sell-out headline shows, not to mention numerous festival appearances including Download, Takedown, Turbulence and Burn It Down - the band from Hertfordshire, UK, now present their label debut for Long Branch Records.

Defences comment on the album: Shadowlight stems from a period of solitude and deep reflection, as we explore what it means to accept your inner darkness. Acknowledging, understanding and ultimately accepting it for what it is, learning how to sit with it or use it to change your outlook. The album sees all sides of this, tying in the parallel of the artistic process itself and what it is to create. To open yourself up to the possibility that you may not achieve what you believe in your core to be something you deserve, that you may not reach your potential. This cycle of disappointment and self-sabotage is commonplace, with nothing left but to chase a sense of absolution and validation forever out of reach."

Dead Icarus stream new single '1 Million Days' via MNRK Heavy

Dead Icarus, the new project of former Atreyu lead vocalist and Gold-selling artist Alex Varkatzas, as well as Gabe Mangold of Enterprise Earth and Brandon Zackey, have released a new single '1 Million Days'. The single is inspired by classic '80s horror films, so it arrives just in time for the creepy season.

Watch the video for '1 Million Days' here: https://youtu.be/EjBGU-hF4js

'1 Million Days' is taken from their debut album, Zealot, out 31st October via MNRK Heavy. Produced and co-written by MangoldZealot is a precise and pummeling execution of airtight technical riffs, miles of solos, blast beat assault and battery, and screamed, growled, and sung vocals.

Pre-order Zealot here: https://deadicarus.ffm.to/zealot

"'1 Million Days' is as close as Dead Icarus gets to a power ballad on Zealot," explains Varkatzas. "When I first started writing the lyrics, I thought it was about failing someone else and seeking their forgiveness. As I finished the lyrics, it became more first person and about letting one's self down and forgiving one's self for mistakes made. Sometimes, the weight we bear is placed upon our own shoulders by ourselves and only we can remove it.

"The video is sort of a tongue-in-cheek homage to late '80s horror, filmed inside a haunted house that is housed inside a haunted building from the 1800s."

Mangold adds: "Musically, '1 Million Days came from the intention of creating an epic, powerful, catchy, and emotional metalcore 'power ballad,' as Alex stated. I'm a sucker for all guitar things from the '80s, so naturally a catchy, singable, harmonized lead in the chorus was the first thing written and it set the tone for the rest of the composition. Don't let the word 'ballad' fool you, though. This song has some unexpected twists and turns as well that aren't a part of your conventional emotional rock song."

Dead Icarus lean on the uncanny creative union between vocalist Varkatzas, guitarist and producer Gabe Mangold, and drummer Brandon Zackey.

Countless fans worldwide initially got to know Varkatzas as co-founder and original frontman for influential Southern California metalcore stalwarts Atreyu. After two decades earmarked by chart-shaking success, a pair of Gold albums and Gold singles, sold-out shows around the globe, and critical renown, he embarked on his next chapter in 2020.

Enter Mangold. Celebrated as guitarist for Enterprise Earth, he and Alex instantly clicked and forged a musical partnership, yielding their 2024-released Ad infernum EP. Inciting critical applause, Revolver promised, "Fans of old-school Atreyu will definitely enjoy."

Dead Icarus will also embark on their first US tour this September with Enterprise Earth and Nekrogoblikon. Worldwide touring is planned for 2025 and beyond.

PATRIARKH (formerly Batushka) announce new album and stream single / video

Polish icons PATRIARKH (formerly Batushka) have announced the release of their new concept album, ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ (Lat. PROROK ILJA), a masterpiece of arcane black metal, out 3rd January 2025 via Napalm Records.

Their label debut unveils eight new compositions and immerses the listener in the true story of Eliasz Klimowicz, the titular Prophet Ilja, set in the 1930s and 40s. Following the success of their critically acclaimed album, Hospodi (2019), and relentless touring around the globe, the new band looks towards a bright future. Firmly grounded in Eastern Orthodox traditions and music, PATRIARKH blends black and doom metal with haunting, dark religious concepts.

PATRIARKH have also unveiled their first single, 'ВЕРШАЛИН III' (Lat.  'WIERSZALIN III'), accompanied by a visually striking official music video, capturing an Orthodox mass. 'ВЕРШАЛИН III' showcases the band's signature blend of Orthodox sacredness with melodic folk instruments, infused with towering doom metal elements in which harsh vocals unite with rising choirs (featuring A. Strug & M. Maleńczuk). This crushing, colossal-sounding blend creates an instantly distinctive sonic experience.

Watch the 'ВЕРШАЛИН III' video here: https://youtu.be/07j-PokQwLo

Pre-order ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ here: https://lnk.to/PATRIARKH-PROPHET-ILJA/napalmrecords

PATRIARKH comment on the new single 'ВЕРШАЛИН III': “‘WIERSZALIN III’ is the first single that announces our new release PROROK ILJA (Lat.) and it probably best reflects the diversity and musical multidimensionality of this album. Just as the titular Prophet Ilja built New Jerusalem in Podlasie, we are building our new identity and showing our new musical face. Listen and share your impressions…“

PATRIARKH are currently on their Epic Prophecy For Europe tour in the UK, catch them on the following dates:

15.10.24 NI - Belfast / Limelight 2
17.10.24 UK - Glasgow / Slay
18.10.24 UK - Sheffield / Corporation
19.10.24 UK - Birmingham – Castle And Falcon
20.10.24 UK - London / Underworld
21.10.24 UK - Milton Keynes – Craufurd Arms
22.10.24 NL - Eindhoven / Dynamo
23.10.24 NL - Zwolle / Hedon

ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ details a true story that happened in the band’s home area of Podlasie, in the village of Grzybowszczyzna, in the 1930s and 40s. The album takes the listener into the world of Eliasz Klimowicz, the titular Prophet Ilja, an illiterate peasant who was the leader of the Orthodox Grzybowska Sect, active until the 1960s, cultivating and transmitting the history of the self-proclaimed prophet. PATRIARKH spread their gospel by using an arsenal of folk instruments, such as tagelharpa, mandolin, mandocello, hurdy gurdy and stringed dulcimer, and worked with a symphony orchestra and choirs to give their new creations the most organic and vivid feeling possible. As is trademark with PATRIARKH’s music, Orthodox sacredness is mixed with black and doom metal, now largely enriched with folk music, neo dark folk, and even film music. The band utilizes the entire palette of Orthodox music, venturing into the areas of Byzantine monody, liturgical chant and Russian polyphony, neatly adapting folk and liturgical melodies to their own style.

PATRIARKH comment on the new album: “With this new release, we are starting a new chapter in our history - not only is our name changing, but our music is also undergoing a natural evolution. The story on the album encouraged us to get out of our comfort zone, we reached for means that we had not used before in our music. Many of you will wonder if this is still black metal? Or is it even metal? Radio play, audiobook, theatre, film soundtrack, folk music, performance... All these terms will fit here. Some will hate, others will love...”

The lyrical side of ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ is an interesting mix of theatre and pastoralism. PATRIARKH uses fragments of texts from the theatre play Prorok Ilja and draws from the messages contained in the works of Włodzimierz Pawluczuk, combining it with folk and liturgical texts. On ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ, listeners can hear various languages – and Polish for the first time ever.

The album was recorded in January and May 2024 at Tall Pine Records (Behemoth, Zalewski, Afromental), Heinrich House (Behemoth, Vesania, Hate), Wem Studio (Kasa Chorych, Lukasyno, Cira) and Radio Białystok studio. Mixing and mastering was handled by Wojciech Wiesławski at Hertz Studi"Варфоломейo (Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated), and production was helmed by band mastermind and leading vocalist Bartłomiej "ВАРФОЛОМИЕЙ" Krysiuk.

“ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ is an album full of emotions, sentimentalism and folklore. It’s pastoral, lyrical, epic, multidimensional and multicolored, just like my Podlasie is multicolored,” says Варфоломей. Dive into the deepest of all shadows with this black metal masterpiece and join PATRIARKH on this intriguing ride.

German technical death metallers Burn Down Eden release new single/video 'Tears of Persephone'

Germany tech-death metallers Burn Down Eden have released their third single, 'Tears of Persephone', taken from forthcoming EP, Epiphany, set for release 6th December via Seek & Strike. This is the successor to their Dismal EP, which was released earlier this year.

Check out the 'Tears of Persephone' video here: https://youtu.be/6tWXVLBHGBw

Burn Down Eden state: "'Tears of Persephone' is a renarration from Greek mythology. It tells the story of the kidnapping of fertility goddess Persephone by Hades into the underworld from her perspective. Hades fell in love with Persephone, stole her and married her against her will. As a consequence, she had to spend the rest of her life in the underworld. Her mother Demeter started searching for her and after some minor setbacks, she finally understood what was going on. Out of pure rage, she started to burn all plants and threatened to destroy the human race. Hades released Persephone thereupon, but gave her something to eat as a goodbye gift. Unfortunately, Persephone ran into an ambush since the food bound her to the underworld. From then on, she had to return to the underworld for some months of the year and every time she did, nothing would grow on planet earth until she came back. So, this myth explains why we have seasons, but from a modern perspective you can also use this myth as a parable for forced marriages.

"The music and video supplements all that and shows Demeter's search for Persephone until she finally finds her in Hades. Well, we bend the truth a little bit here, since Demeter is played by
Pether. However, the mood from walking through corn fields, climbing mountains and finally making it to the underworld shines through. The three-four time is the base for all the melodies and harmonies that gives the song a very sad feeling. Listening to the chorus, you can really feel Persephone's pain.

"As a band we usually go full throttle with high tempo and technical song writing. But with 'Tears of Persephone' we show that heavy and feeling can be a nice combination."

Known for their explosive fusion of brutality, melodic harmony, technical prowess, and lyrical depth, Burn Down Eden's music serves as a stark mirror, reflecting the darker aspects of humanity and challenging listeners to confront the uncomfortable truths we create.

Now the band are poised to celebrate a remarkable milestone: their 10th anniversary in 2024. In honour of this significant occasion, they are set to unveil their highly anticipated new LP, Dismal Epiphany, in 2025. This ambitious project is thoughtfully divided into two parts. The first segment, titled Dismal, an EP released earlier this year in April, which features captivating videos for the first five tracks, showcasing the band's evolution and artistic vision.

The excitement continues now with this second part, Epiphany EP, which kicked off in August 2024, with the release of the evocative single 'Epistrophy' and follow up, 'Fake News For Breakfast'. As Burn Down Eden reflect on a decade of artistic growth and innovation, the anticipation builds: will this new release propel them to even greater heights?

Burn Down Eden add: "With the Epiphany EP, we pick up right where we left off with the Dismal EP released earlier this year. The technical and musical level is higher than ever. Epiphany has the same overall dark vibe as Dismal, but with a slightly brighter touch to it, which is why these specific five songs were chosen to be on this second EP. Together, the two EPs result in the desired full-length album.

“Once
Epiphany drops in full on Dec 6th, you’ll finally be able to listen to it as a full-length album, which was the way we originally envisioned. It feels like one thrilling flow from start to finish or you can listen to both EPs back to back. It doesn’t matter! In the end, what you’re having is a cauldron full of technical death metal riffs, neoclassical shredding, exotic scales, clever harmonies, groovy headbangers, lethal high-speed blasts and atmospheric counterpoint black metal layers, garnished with lyrics that show the ugly face of humanity. That’s what Burn Down Eden is all about!"

Pop Evil share cinematic video for 'What Remains'

Modern rock powerhouse Pop Evil have shared their cinematic music video for their recently released track 'What Remains', via MNRK Heavy. In the video, viewers will plunge into the dark, fragmented landscape of singer Leigh Kakaty's psyche, unraveling the thin line between self-identity and survival.

Watch the official music video, directed by Sam Shapiro, here: https://youtu.be/rJTzUO58xI4

Stream here: https://popevil.ffm.to/whatremainssingle

"The truest version of yourself comes from reaching within the darkest corners that you've kept hidden from the world," explains Kakaty. "It's in those shadows that you'll uncover the reasons for your transformation. I have evolved into something new. I am not who I used to be. I am what remains."

It's the dawn of a new era for Pop Evil, which the band promises will be its most sonically heavy. The track, with its thunderous riffs and rhythmic thrust, fulfills that promise.

Pop Evil first rose to international prominence with debut album Lipstick on the Mirror, featuring RIAA Certified Gold Single '100 in a 55'. After Kakaty famously tore up the band's major label contract onstage, Pop Evil signed with MNRK Heavy (formerly eOne Music). 2011's War of Angels debuted in the Top 10 of the Rock Albums chart and produced three Top 10 singles.

The band's 2013 album Onyx put them in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time and boasted three consecutive No.1 rock songs, two RIAA Gold Singles, and one Platinum Single 'Torn to Pieces'. Pop Evil's next release, Up, was the No.1 Independent Album in America and made it to #25 on the Billboard 200. It featured several Top 5 rock songs and a chart-topper with 'Footsteps,' which also went Gold.

Pop Evil's 2018 self-titled set included the No.1 hit and newly certified Gold single 'Waking Lions' and two other Top 10 hits. 2020's Versatile, meanwhile, scored two No.1 rock songs: 'Breathe Again' and 'Survivor'. In 2023, the band released its seventh studio album Skeletons, which spawned their eighth and ninth No.1 singles: 'Eye of the Storm' and 'Skeletons'.

Nuclear extreme metallers Cytotoxin unleash new single 'Hope Terminator'

After the release of their fourth full-length record Nuklearth in 2020, the nuclear quintet Cytotoxin strikes back with their first standalone single 'Hope Terminator'. The band continue their blast of a musical and lyrical concept, tackling the catastrophic incident at the Chernobyl power plant in 1986.

Watch 'Hope Terminator' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfQy8L4eAMI

Listen to 'Hope Terminor' here: https://cytotoxin.bfan.link/hope-terminator

With blazing, precise, and ionizing fast instrumental work paired with a groove that packs a punch, 'Hope Terminator' narrates the dramatic tale of Pripyat’s evacuation. After the reactor exploded, the city’s residents were exposed to abnormal levels of radioactive radiation for 36 hours before authorities finally decided to evacuate within just four hours. Since then, Pripyat has remained a ghost town, a chilling reminder of the past.

On the night of April 26, 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl power plant changed the course of the world.

Inspired by this catastrophe, the German death metal band Cytotoxin emerged in 2010, bringing a new level of intensity to the genre. By fusing technical and brutal riffs while thematizing the devastating effects of the reactor disaster, they quickly drew attention in the scene. Their debut album, Plutonium Heaven (2011), was a self-produced powerhouse, followed by their second record, Radiophobia (2012), which secured them a three-album deal with American label Unique Leader Records.

Cytotoxin quickly gained a reputation for their explosive live performances and razor-sharp precision on their instruments. Their third album, Gammageddon (2017), solidified their place in the tech death community, while their fourth album, Nuklearth (2020), showcased their versatility and songwriting capabilities. Following numerous European tours and major festival shows, Cytotoxin are set to make their U.S. and Canadian debut in November 2024 with their new single 'Hope Terminator' in hand.

Keep your gas mask ready, as the radiation spreads across the globe.

The band comment on the new album: “Welcome to a new page of the Ad Infinitum story, where a new era begins. A journey connecting three albums, starting in the ominous darkness of Abyss, out on October 11th. The journey will continue through the hope and empowerment found at the Surface, and end in the freeing and energising dreamscapes of Elysium. We are extremely impatient to present this new record, as well as not only the beautiful artworks and videos depicting its universe, but the captivating visual storyline connecting each video to the next. This is our most elaborate, intimate and unapologetic work yet!”

Abyss soars as a modern metal masterpiece. After the opener 'My Halo', the intensity continues with 'Follow me Down', driven by entrancing riffs that solidify the band's technical prowess. 'Aftermath' highlights Ad Infinitum's energetic and experimental side, delivering potent growls and innovative compositions. 'Euphoria' transports listeners to ethereal soundscapes, seamlessly blending genres from catchy pop to visceral alt metal, creating a unique and captivating experience. The mystic 'The one you'll hold on to' follows with its powerful guitar riffs and haunting melodies, leading into the infectious 'Parasite'. This track spotlights Melissa Bonny's remarkable vocal abilities while giving ample space for impressive guitar work. The album culminates with 'Dead End', a gripping, catchy finale that leaves a lasting impression. Abyss is an unmatched, skilled tour de force showcasing Ad Infinitum’s vast creativity and variety of inspirations.
