'Get It Off My Chest' is built upon a soaring, angular riff, against a hard rock backdrop which is equal parts
Alter Bridge and Flyleaf with a healthy sprinkle of In This Moment. A true story of mistakes made whilst trying to avoid a traumatic situation, the lyrics from Marisa are both deeply personal and brutally honest.
The video portrays the growth and strength one can find on the other side of a seemingly bad experience. It also encapsulates, for the first time, that Marisa is able to embrace her body, her sexuality, and feminine strength.
Marisa says: "If you had told my insecure 18-year-old self that I would have created such an exposed and raunchy music video, then I honestly wouldn’t have believed you! But I think that is what makes the story behind it all the more powerful and also true to the meaning of the album.
"The mood of the narrative transitions throughout, reflecting my journey of self-discovery, accepting my faults, embracing my sexuality like I never have before (with the strong BDSM and LGBTQIA+ themes), and owning my feminine power.
"I start in a place of vulnerability and powerlessness, slowly unravelling, giving into temptation and desires, until finally I take back control, accepting my mistakes and embracing my darker sides, becoming a stronger, more authentic version of myself.
"This is the first song and music video I’ve released were it’s felt relevant to finally speak publicly about my sexuality, which has felt so liberating! The song and the video are a celebration of resilience, sexuality and authenticity, and I hope it inspires others to embrace their journey of self-realisation too."
