Black Lakes battle with post-truth in new single and video 'Verity in Flames'
Black Lakes have shared a video for their single 'Verity in Flames', taken from their album For All We've Left Behind, released earlier this year. Through a social commentary on the notion of post-truth, the song highlights the Welsh alt-metal outfit's social and political approach, and frontman Will Preston's unique talent when it comes to marrying these societal issues with poetry and imaged songwriting.

Frontman Will comments: "Whilst Verity can be used as a girl's name, the word also means truth. The song is a social commentary on the notion of a ‘post’ truth society, and the fact that even the notion of ‘post’ truth exists. In a world where phrases like ‘alternative facts’ and ‘my truth’ exist, the echoes to an Orwellian dystopia are as terrifying as they are stark. Verity makes clear that whilst the truth may be burning, in embers she remains, just waiting to rise again, and be discovered. It’s in this last line that we counterpoint the anger of the song, with a sense of optimism that the truth will out amongst the panic and despair of our current societal norms."
Black Lakes create a sound which deliberately blurs the boundaries between hard rock and alternative metal, drawing on a wide range of influences from across both scenes. Their debut album For All We've Left Behind was recorded in the Welsh capital with premier hard rock and metal producer Romesh Dodangoda. Their previous single 'Fragments' was picked up across national radio including Kerrang! and the BBC. Despite the impact of the pandemic, the band grew from strength to strength, having been named both a Great Music Stories 'Band of the Year 2021', and 'Live Band of the Year', a critically acclaimed redux set released exclusively for the Spirit of Wildfire festival and making the final of the Hard Rock Hell - Highway to Hell competition at the O2 Academy. Having successfully completed their gofundme campaign to support it, their highly anticipated debut album For All We've Left Behind was released on 22nd February 2022. The band has been touring extensively in its support this year.
